Meet the New Blackwater, Same as the Old Blackwater

New contractor may hire the same people

Share

(Newser) – The military contractor known as Xe—and far better known as the former Blackwater—has changed little more than its name, NPR reports. Despite having said it's leaving the international security business, Xe recently extended its deal with the State Department to fly protective missions in Iraq. And as another contractor takes over many of Xe's other projects, it's dipping into an identical labor pool.

Hundreds of former Blackwater guards are landing jobs with Triple Canopy, the contractor inheriting Blackwater/Xe's deals. "Changing the name on the contract is problematic if it is the same underlying people who are not well trained, who should not be carrying weapons, particularly semi-automatic weapons," warned a lawyer who helped Iraqis file suit against Blackwater.

Well, as long as influential but near-sighted people in this country are intransigent about how to make the world a better place, it's either hiring bad actors, like the Italian land owners did with the emerging mafia, or a reinstatement of the draft board. Reply

Hiring scum like the mercenary who, working for the Apartheid regime, machine-gunned my friend's family in front of him in S. Africa -- for the crime of supporting a "terrorist" named Mandela. (I shed no tears upon hearing that Iraqi insurgents had strung up that Blackwater employee.) I'm sure they're really helping America's cause -- NOT. Reply

Blackwater should be striken from any US contracts permanently. Let their puke billionaire ulra-rightwing fanatic founder foot the bills if he is so patriotic. Private armies are un-American. Dump these paid assassins. Reply

If the owner and the employees are so patriotic, let them join the Army...I'm sure the professionals wouldn't mind a little help. Of course, there is the little matter of pay, but, what the heck, patriotism isn't about money, is it? Reply
