Catholics 'Will Enjoy' Da Vinci Prequel: Howard

Director defends Angels & Demons from 'smear campaign'

(Newser) – Ron Howard wants to make something clear: He is not anti-Catholic, and neither is his upcoming film, Angels & Demons. The beleaguered prequel to the similarly controversial Da Vinci Code is under fire from the Catholic League, and Howard responds to the latest “silly and mean-spirited work of propaganda” on the Huffington Post: “I believe Catholics, including most in the hierarchy of the Church, will enjoy the movie.”

In the movie, “Professor Robert Langdon teams up with the Catholic Church to thwart a vicious attack against the Vatican. What, exactly, is anti-Catholic about that?” Howard asks. He issues a challenge to detractors to see the film before judging, adding, “I have respect for Catholics and their Church, and I believe Angels & Demons treats the Church with respect—even a degree of reverence—for its traditions and beliefs.”

If fictional movies could never take liberties with reality, then there would have been no Ben-Hur, no Barabbas, The Robe, Gone With The Wind, or Titanic. Not to mention Splash! - Ron Howard

Why do I get the feeling that if the movie was about Muslims, everybody would be slamming Ron Howard for being insensitive? But Catholics? No problem with that; it's always open season on Catholics.

People that have not read the book or gone to view the movie will become critics-now there's a lesson in life-cults educate their children the same way-we don't want to teach different theories or scientific principles since they conflict with our teaching-ignorance leads to conflict

The book was excellent-I look forward to the movie-the catholic church can't enjoy any movie unless its about Jesus-the present Pope is to the church what Bush was to the United States-a complete failure-RC can't enjoy things-it nakes them feel gulity.
