(Newser) – The University of Georgia professor wanted for the triple murder of his wife and two other adults is still hiding out and likely in a state of "desperation," police tell the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A nationwide manhunt is on for marketing prof George Zinkhan, who eyewitnesses say shot his victims at close range Saturday—while his kids waited in his car—during a picnic at a community theater where his wife volunteered. The motive remains unclear.

"He wasn't a guy to start a conversation," said the neighbor Zinkhan left his kids with before disappearing. His wife was "more vivacious. She was the extrovert." Zinhan hasn't used an ATM, his cell phone or credits cards since he vanished. Last week, Zinkhan made an upcoming final exam optional, notes a student who describes the teacher as "nice but really weird, kind of off." UGA officials say classes will continue as scheduled today.
