(Newser) – Serbia's Novak Djokovic pulled off an arresting upset of Roger Federer at the inappropriately named Rogers Cup yesterday in Montreal, dashing the Swiss phenom's hope of winning a 50th tournament. The 20-year-old will oust Andy Roddick from the world No. 3 spot after besting Roddick, No. 2 Rafael Nadal, and Federer.

Federer failed to convert on a triple set point in the first and Djokovic capitalized, forcing seven deuces and sending the set to a tiebreaker he took easily. The Serb earned his fourth title of 2007. Federer continued to slump in non-Grand Slam events, but the 2007 Australian and Wimbledon champion goes into the US Open this month heavily favored.
