It's Day 100: Roll Out the Clichés

Buckley outlines the platitudes of the Obama era

Share

(Newser) – Today marks the 100th day of Barack Obama's presidency, an occasion acknowledged by a flood of articles assessing the meaning of a presidency after three measly months, writes Christopher Buckley in the Financial Times. The American satirist offers a breakdown of the most predictable interpretations.

  • Refreshing change: Obama's brought a "new tone" to Washington, Michelle and the kids are so wonderful, and how 'bout that vegetable garden?
  • A good start, but much remains to be done: Understandable, considering Obama faces a "historic challenge."

  • Change, schmange: How could The One fail to end global warming or withdraw Bush and Cheney's security detail?
  • We told you so: Some conservative classics. Obama is printing cash indiscriminately, or he's palling around with Hugo Chávez, or he's a Eurocrat in disguise.
  • A (yawn) first-class temperament: "No-drama Obama" turns out to be a bit boring. Good thing he blew his top about that Air Force One flyover on Day 98.

If "BO" didn't spend the economy would have tanked, job losses would have skyrocketed, and the money would have evaporated anyway in a shrunken economy. I guess you'd rather GW, who took an economic boom and turned it into the worst situation since the depression. Good luck with that thinking Timinator2K.

CK your delusional with nothing to back up your statement except opinion. Fondue: From here on in, IT IS Obama's fault, he was elected. TheHip:The economy Tanked, he didn't save it from doing so, the claim was to try to stop it or slow it which he did not, and as far as job losses, do you have any idea how many jobs have been lost since The Bama too these measures to make sure companies like Cat Diesel could hire people back, what a joke he is and ignorant statement from you. You can pretend all you want, it will not make the man a better president.
