The White House has switched gears and decided to release a report on, and photos from, the Air Force One low-altitude flyby that spooked New Yorkers, CNN reports. A spokesman said that, contrary to earlier reports, images would be probably be released later this week—along with the findings of an official review into "why that decision was made and to ensure that it never happens again."

The 747's flight has been criticized for its $328,835 cost to the taxpayer as well as its insensitivity in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, but the military says the flight was a training mission as well as photo opportunity. "The hours would have been flown regardless, and the expenses would have been accrued on a different mission," officials said.
