(Newser) – An autopsy was performed today on a boy found buried in a public playground in Albuquerque, NM, but he remains unidentified, KOB.com reports. About 50 investigators are canvassing the area around Alvarado Park to identify the 3- to 5-year-old or a suspect. A mother taking her own kids to the park yesterday noticed a shoe poking out of the sand and alerted police.

"No one has stepped forward as parent, guardian or caretaker or any other relationship with this child," said a police spokesman, the AP reports. The boy, whose ethnicity could not be identified due to sand discoloration, likely died over the past 48 hours.

Skeletal measurements and DNA markers should help, but this is an imperfect match with deviation. But it's a start.

No happy ending possible here, unfortunately. Please parents, watch over your children. Or is you can't or won't, please don't have them.
