Abducted SoCal Boy Reunited With Mom

Share

(AP) – A 3-year-old boy abducted from his family home in San Bernardino nearly 2 weeks ago by two armed men was reunited with his mother today after police found him wandering a Mexican border town's streets, sheriff's officials said. The reunion took place in the California border city of Calexico, a day after detectives and FBI agents received a call from officials in the neighboring Mexican city of Mexicali.

A municipal police officer in Mexicali found Briant Rodriguez walking the streets by himself late Thursday. The officer took him to several houses seeking his family before leaving him in child protective custody. Briant's mother, Maria Rosalina Millan, and investigators boarded a plane to Calexico Friday night. Investigators were continuing to investigate why Briant was abducted and why his family was targeted.

Thank heavens ... we all need to see a happy ending on a Newser story like this from time to time. The 30 year old story of little missing Etan is still haunting so many after so long. Reply

However, the entire mess and facts related to readers doesn't add up at all... If the boy was taken for a reason, why was he released and wandering the streets? Was he perhaps taken to throw off the border patrol at the crossing? The whole thing is really odd. Reply

There is no Border Patrol checking cars going IN to Mexico. You can travel completely unobstructed, leave America with millions of dollars, or kidnapped children or whatever ill gotten gains. Mexico has it right in there Constitution, Mexicans have the right to travel aborad, so they don't stop anyone leaving OR coming to their country. It's only when you try to ENTER America that you get checked out so careful.
