VP denies he divulged 'undisclosed location' beneath residence

(Newser) – Joe Biden did not—repeat, not—disclose the existence of a bunker at the Naval Observatory used by former VP Dick Cheney, Politico reports. “What the vice president described in his comments was not—as some press reports have suggested—an underground facility,” a Biden aide said today. Rather, it is an “upstairs workspace” Biden “understood was frequently used by Vice President Cheney.” It is now a guest room.

I've heard that although the Nazis are often referred to as fascists, the only real "fascism" that world has seen was Mussolini's Italy during WWII, where the corporations essentially ran the government. I would like to hear some people's definition of fascism though, because it seems to mean a lot of different things to people.

The issue is not whether 'liberal fascism' can exist so much as why CK is using it and what he means by it. He just repeats it again and again and doesn't actually try to communicate with it. So I did what you said and googled it up, and what I found was a book called "Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning" by Jonah Goldberg who is a conservative. Among other things, Goldberg argues that the word fascism has lost its actual meaning over time. Positive reviews coming from conservatives. Marvin Olasky of World Magazine wrote, "Jonah Goldberg's Liberal Fascism is a flawed but useful attempt to redraw the political map. Goldberg shows how Woodrow Wilson began and Franklin Roosevelt amplified an almost-fascist concentration of power in Washington. FDR boasted of his 'wholesome and proper' buildup of power because he was leading 'a people's government.' Goldberg shows how liberals came to believe that authoritarian government is fine as long as representatives of 'the people'—themselves—are in charge." I would say that if you think liberal fascists exist, they are more than likely to be "labeled" conservative when you look at the description: Fascism comprises a radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology and a corporatist economic ideology. Fascists advocate the creation of a single-party state. Fascists believe that nations and/or races are in perpetual conflict whereby only the strong can survive by being healthy, vital, and by asserting themselves in combat against the weak. Fascist governments forbid and suppress criticism and opposition to the government and the fascist movement. Fascism opposes class conflict and blames capitalist liberal democracies for creating class conflict and in turn blames communists for exploiting class conflict. No common and concise definition exists for fascism and historians and political scientists disagree on what should be in any concise definition.

Yeah, fondue, I think 'fascism' is not a useful word without some context. 'Fascist' in its common usage today means 'corparatist'. 'Statist' vs. 'libertarian' and 'liberal' versus 'conservative' is a more useful 2D model of this territory, but newser is not a good place to have a discussion even when it is on topic. .............. I was fairly liberal and libertarian. My political compass Economic Left/Right: -3.75 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.36

psychada, you know that is a joke, right -- 'military intelligence' being an oxymoron? I see the humor in it, but even as a liberal I know we need an army for the foreseeable future, and I know smart and courageous people join the military to protect all of us. Idiots and criminals join too, like happens to any group, but I'd *guess* the average IQ of the US military would be *above* 100 -- maybe even averaging 110 or so. .................. A society would not trust such a responsibility to its low-hanging fruit.
