Bruni Blasts Pope Over Condom Stance

French first lady says church's teachings should 'evolve'

(Newser) – Carla Bruni laid into the pope in a recent interview, saying his opposition to condoms left her feeling "profoundly secular," the Telegraph reports. The French first lady, who has campaigned against the spread of AIDS in Africa, said the disconnect between religious charities and the Vatican is frustrating. "In Africa it's often church people who look after sick people," she said.

Religion can't really evolve, that's its problem. Which is why we need to give up on it and progress without it. Reply

Religion is not a requirement for anyone. Nor do any major religions control your choices if you choose not to believe. In this country, every form of birth control including abortion on demand for teenagers is available. Many people of faith oppose these things. They have first amendment and voting rights. Sorry if that makes you angry. Reply
