Roman Soccer Fans Will Kick, Er, Stab Your Butt

Anyway you slice it, extreme fans like to attack from behind

Share

(Newser) – People who attend soccer games in Rome have to watch their backsides, warns the BBC. That's because Romans are particularly fond of stabbing rival fans in the butt. Stabbings are "now so frequent they're hardly reported in the press," said a professor who has studied the attacks. "A rival fan is stabbed at nearly every Roma game."

Romans even have a word for it—puncicate—and the practice may date to the middle ages when slashing a duelist's buttocks was considered skillful. Roman soccer fans "target the buttocks because the victim is not likely to die," said the professor. "These people don't want to kill. They want to show they can hurt their rivals and get away with it."  Experts warn that if an attack severs nerve to the leg it can cripple for life.

Yeah, they should learn from us free Americans. Why, we have a prison system that maintains armies of guys getting ass-raped again and again for decades. Which would you rather have?

Yeah, you go on being a goody-two shoes not doing anything to challenge anyone. Truth is, even regular people doing regular things are going to prison. It is arbitrary. Most people are violating the law in some way and could get busted upon being searched. As I heard one policeman say, "I can follow anyone eventually they will make a mistake and I can stop them." ............ But, Paul, you missed the point. Our prisons don't work. They are crime universities. How could it be any more backwards than it is now?

There are quite big differences in culture and traditions in Europe, almost every country has a different language. I think even the untrained eye can spot differences in southern, northern (maybe also western) Europe. Some "customs", such as these stabbings and bullfightings are strange to say the least, to northeners as to anyone else.
