Sarah Palin will continue to groom her national profile this weekend with appearances in New York state. She’ll be among the honored guests at Saturday's Founders Day celebration in Auburn, the home of William Seward, who negotiated the purchase of Alaska from Russia. “We're going to be political central for a little while,” said the city manager of Auburn, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Alaskan statehood, reports the Citizen.

Palin’s spokeswoman and former press secretary also hails from Auburn, the Syracuse Post-Standard notes. As for turnout, “we can wind up with 2,000, or we can wind up with 20,000,” said the police chief. Palin will also visit Long Island for a fundraiser for an organization supporting the developmentally disabled, Newsday reports. “We wanted to honor her as a mother who has a special-needs child,” said a spokesman.
