Americans in Jerusalem call president 'terrorist,' use racial slur

(Newser) – The night before Barack Obama's landmark Cairo speech, a documentary filmmaker headed out to the streets of Jerusalem to ask young Israelis and "droves" of American Jews what they thought of the president's Middle East overtures, notes Gawker. The result is "the most shocking footage I have ever filmed," says Max Blumenthal: Educated youths calling the president "a Muslim, for sure," a "terrorist," and a notorious racial slur.

The filmmaker asks a simple question: "What do you think of Obama and Israel?" All of the interview subjects are from relatively wealthy economic backgrounds and had a strong command of the Israeli political situation—although several were visibly drunk. "These people and their families are the core of the opposition to meaningful peace between Israel and her neighbors," wrote a Blumenthal assistant. "This is what Obama is up against."

(AP) - President Barack Obama said today he does not think Israel has decided whether to attack Iran over its disputed nuclear program, a standoff that has the Middle East on edge. The president sought to assure allies and foes alike that the United States was working in lockstep with Israel to solve the crisis, "hopefully diplomatically." Obama's comments came as Israel's major allies in the West are working hard to talk it out of a unilateral military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, arguing forcefully that an attack ultimately would only strengthen the regime in Tehran. (NEWSER) - Calling Rosa Parks. Israeli women are refusing to move to the back of the bus despite pressure from Orthodox Jews who believe in the segregation of the sexes. An 18-year-old female soldier recently boarded a Jerusalem bus and was ordered by an ultra-Orthodox man to the back. "I said I have a right to sit here," she told the Wall Street Journal. "Then other people gathered and started shouting. It was scary."
