'Defiant' Nun Arrested After Cop Showdown

Sister got between police officer and man with an ice pick

(Newser) – A Miami nun has been arrested after getting in the middle of a confrontation between a police officer and a homeless man wielding an ice pick, WPLG 10 reports. The man had been causing a disturbance outside the shelter where Sister Margaret Anthony works, and when police tried to defuse the situation, she got involved. “The nun refused to stay back,” said a police spokesman.

“At one point, she gets right in front of, or in the middle of, the police officer and this knife-, ice-pick-wielding man,” he continued. “She was loud. She was belligerent. She was defiant.” The officer says Anthony “walked toward me flaring her arms.” Anthony’s friends say she knew the man and was trying to calm him down so he woudn't go to jail. She faces misdemeanor charges of obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct.

good for her! i'm not one to break the law, at least not overtly, but i think that she did a very good thing by stepping in. and i don't think that people are right in saying that police are 'trigger happy' or bad or anything like that. i have a lot of respect for them-they do what i don't want to do. if you have a problem with police, become one, and start changing things. otherwise, shut up and be happy that there are people, besides brave nuns, who would protect you from a man wielding an ice pick.

RobN, If you really want a challenge you'll try debating some of the hard core lefties over at HuffPo or maybe even dailykos. My favorite is Common Dreams but the crowd there is so intellectual (for the most part) that I rarely have anything to contribute that hasn't been said better by someone else. And I get tired of being the "conservative" most of the time. But admit it, RobN, citrix- lover stepped up and started defending the generic class of trolls in general by calling me a moron. I had not called anyone a troll in particular. I don't think there are many real trolls here, but some to tend to get lazy and just toss around troll-like insults rather than engaging in a discussion. Anyway, citiboy's jab seemed kind of like loser type behavior to me (and I'm an expert, believe me.) Actually, I think the fit would be better if we exchanged labels (or maybe we can just agree henceforth not to call one another any names at all. Do you think your bud will go for that option, RobN?
