NOW Backs Palin Against Dave—With a 'But'

(Newser) – Sarah Palin has a new ally in her feud with David Letterman: the National Organization for Women. "The sexualization of girls and women in the media is reaching new lows these days," NOW says on its website, taking particular offense at Letterman's remark about Palin looking like a "slutty" flight attendant. "Someone of Letterman's stature should be above wallowing in the juvenile, sexist mud that other comedians and broadcasters seem to prefer."

The group, however, also recalls the abuse that a young Chelsea Clinton took for her appearance years ago from the likes of Rush Limbaugh. "NOW hopes that all the conservatives who are fired up about sexism in the media lately will join us in calling out sexism when it is directed at women who aren't professed conservatives."

Why feed the flames? The press is calling this a "feud." I don't. Palin asked Letterman to apologize to all women which is a classy response. It will only build Letterman's ratings. Palin doesn't need to get into the mud with him. Imus was fired for far less. He called the coach and then met with the players to extend his apology. He was classy. Letterman is treating this like the silly joke it is. Why aren't people sticking up for a 14 year old girl who has become the butt of a pervert's joke? She had the right to go to the game with her folks. Have none of you any compassion to the feelings of a hurt child? You have the nerve to blame Palin for Letterman's behavior. Do you blame the victim in cases of rape as well? Of child molestation? That's what this is.

(NEWSER) - What will David Letterman be doing in two years? No one knows, but one thing he apparently won't be doing: hosting the Late Show. He let that little tidbit slip casually while interviewing Howard Stern last night. The clip in the gallery ends, of course, just before the comment, but Splitsider reports that later in the interview Letterman tells Stern he'll only do the Late Show for two more years. (NEWSER) - Bristol Palin has apologized, sort of, for the gay slurs her sister posted on Facebook after a schoolmate criticized their mom's reality show. "Willow and I shouldn't have reacted to negative comments about our family. We apologize.," wrote Bristol on Facebook. Her contrition was somewhat tempered by her added comment that the "haters are pulling out all the stops to destroy" us. A right-wing gay group, meanwhile, stepped up to defend Willow and her slurs. (NEWSER) - Willow Palin just made a sort of political debut on Facebook—and it wasn't a pretty sight. TMZ has screenshots that apparently show the16-year-old daughter of Sarah posting gay slurs directed to a schoolmate who attacked her mom's new reality series. "Your so gay," Willow snapped on Facebook, misspelling "you're," and later calling the boy a f**got after he said Sarah Palin's Alaska reality series is "failing so bad."
