WTF, DoD? Dumbest Military Tech Acronyms

(Newser) Wired has been keeping track of the most ridiculous acronyms the military-industrial complex comes up with. Here’s the latest list of the "Most Awesomely Bad Military Acronyms" (MAMAs, of course):

  • Affordable Accurate Robot Guidance (AARG)
  • Integrated Precision Ordnance Delivery System (IPODS)
  • Multi-Sensor Aerospace-Ground Joint ISR Interoperability Coalition (MAJIIC)

  • National Intelligence Community Enterprise Cyber Assurance Program (NICECAP)
  • Forensic Analysis Software Tools for Exploitation and Reasoning (FASTER)
  • Efficient Linearized All-Silicon Transmitters ICs (ELASTx)

Of course there are the dangerously misleanding acronyms, such as: Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Also Known as USA PATRIOT (As tin the perversly named "USA PATRIOT Act").

Good point. The trouble is there is too much money going to to many congressional districts and nobody is going to vote to stop money going to their home district.
