'Size Nazi' Designers Lash Back at Vogue

It's not all our fault, they say

Share

(Newser) – Designers have lashed back at a Vogue editor who accuses them of forcing ultra-thin models on magazine covers by sending "minuscule" photo-shoot clothes no normal woman can wear. British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman complained in a letter to top designers that the clothing is so tiny magazines are forced to use excessively skinny models with "jutting bones" and "no breasts or hips." Designers argue it's not entirely their fault, reports the Guardian.

Yes, clothes are continuing to shrink, and models have died because of anorexia. But the entire industry has a responsibility to change, they argue. "If tomorrow all magazines, model agencies, and stylists used bigger girls, then the designers would, too," explained designer Kinder Aggugin, who has worked at Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, and Calvin Klein. The Vogue complaint is considered an industry breakthrough in the controversial issue of "size 0" models.

It's always a question of who will back off first; isn't it ridiculous? Reply

Wow, I watched that video and some of those women were SCARY skinny. And I believe Marylin Monroe was a size 12-14, certainly more healthy than a size 0. More attractive too. Bring back models that look like women and not like stick figures. Most of us do actually have some curves, of course most of us can't afford to spend 1-2k on an outfit either. Reply

Personally speaking as a male I do NOT want a woman beside me who I am worried a breeze might blow over at any given moment, give me a lady with some curves and that's what most of us like. But who cares what men like do what is HEALTHY for your body and starvation is NOT the answer. Way to many young girls are suffering from anorexia as well as peer pressure to be thin which is NOT healthy. Reply
