Site helps track down attacker hired by victim's husband

(AP) – North Carolina cops have charged a second man in the rape of a woman that authorities say was arranged by her husband on Craigslist, reports the Charlotte Observer. Rodney Liverman, 39, faces a first-degree rape charge, along with three other sex offenses, and was jailed on $250,000 bond. Craigslist helped authorities locate Liverman, reports the AP; the victim's husband has already been charged.

Police said a man entered a home with a knife and went into the woman's bedroom, demanded money and ordered her to take off her clothes before raping her. The victim at one point grabbed his knife, and threw it to her husband, who made no move to help her. He later told her to take a shower and not call the cops.

(NEWSER) - Julian Assange has surrendered to London authorities, who have arrested him on a Swedish warrant for suspicion of sex crimes. His lawyer arranged to deliver the controversial WikiLeaks founder to police for questioning. The 39-year-old Australian is wanted on suspicion of "sex by surprise," sexual molestation, and unlawful coercion in Sweden. The case could lead to his extradition. He's due to appear in Westminster Magistrate's Court later today. (NEWSER) - A North Carolina man faces first-degree rape charges after arranging for the rape of his wife via Craigslist, police said. The 25-year-old, who advertised for someone to have sex with his wife using “scare tactics,” was in the room as a man with a knife carried out the attack, the AP reports. Police Dig Up Remains at Marine's House

May be body of pregnant victim; police still hunting accused

(NEWSER) - Police seeking a missing Marine have found blood and human remains at the yard of the Marine she had accused of raping her, CNN reports. Cops found a "trace of violent activity in the house" of Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean in North Carolina, and "evidence of an attempted cleanup." Police are treating Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach's death as murder and waiting for daylight to search a cavity in Laurean's yard. More»
