(Newser) – Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been keeping busy with charity work between film shoots, People reports. The Pitt-Jolie Foundation yesterday gave $1 million to help refugees displaced by fighting in Pakistan, and a $1 million donation from "the Brad Pitt family" was made to the newly christened Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center at St. John's Hospital in Missouri. The largesse follows a Brad Pitt purchase earlier this month of a $1 million painting by artist Neo Rauch.

The head of the United Nations Refugee Agency thanked the couple for their contribution. He said the situation in Pakistan, where over 2 million people have been displaced by fighting between government forces and the Taliban, is "the most challenging humanitarian crisis of the past decade." Jolie has visited the country several times as a UN goodwill ambassador.
