Stocks Soar on Intel Earnings

Share

(Newser) – Tech stocks soared at the open today, taking major indexes with them, after a strong quarter and upbeat outlook from Intel, the Wall Street Journal reports. The Dow rose 100 points, while the Nasdaq added 30 points and the S&P 11.45 points. Intel was up 7.5% pre-market. “Clearly, Intel is seeing a firming up in demand," said one analyst. “It's encouraging news for the industry.”

Hardly surprising. Intel's Core 2, i7 and Atom processors have been mopping the floor with the competition in price / performance and just performance overall. I wonder if the new breed of ARM processor Linux netbooks will change the landscape? Intel and Microsoft's fortunes seem intertwined... Reply

Maybe if price/performance is a ratio, then yes intel beats out the competitors. But since Intel's chips work better than those of AMD at the same clock speed, the AMD procs are cheaper
