McCain, GOP Settle With Jackson Browne

Share

(Newser) – The GOP has settled with Jackson Browne for using the left-leaning singer’s “Running on Empty” in campaign ads for John McCain in the 2008 election, Billboard reports. As part of the agreement—whose cash value is unknown—the GOP pledged to “respect and uphold the rights of artists and to obtain permissions and/or licenses for copyrighted works where appropriate.” “I’m really happy that we got this statement from them,” Browne says.

It’s great to have it affirmed that these laws stand. I’ve had an idea of how my songs are protected and how money is collected and how making a living as a musician works for my whole career, and it’s great to have it affirmed. - Jackson Browne

Another small example where Republicans think they can do anything they please because in their minds everything belongs to them to use and abuse. Reply

Republicans, lacking empathy, can't understand the meaning in song lyrics. And they forget to keep track of who is and isn't a left leaning artist, which shouldn't be too hard because the only singers I remember seeing at the GOP convention in St Paul were a couple of douche-brothers with cowboy hates. Better stick with "God Bless America," republicans, it seems to work for you, or maybe try "Hoist that Flag" by Tom Waits.

Yes, stealing is no big deal for a Republican, they do much worse on a daily basis.
