(Newser) – Former vice presidents lose their Secret Service protection 6 months after leaving office, but Dick Cheney is no ordinary former vice president. In a first, his protection will be extended for an indefinite period, CNN reports. Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano signed off on the move, which was reportedly requested by Cheney. It's not due to any specific threats but rather to his continued high profile, one official said.

Let the Secret Service protect him til the end of 2010. That's the one year in which he could die and not his heirs could collect his entire estate with out paying the estate taxes. He has made so much money off the needless war in Iraq and it would be nice to get a little of it back before it goes to his family.

Mad, a great comment and so true. His 8 years were scary in more ways than one.
