Dodd Has Prostate Cancer

(Newser) – Senator Chris Dodd has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, the Hartford Courant reports, but the disease is in its early stages, and Dodd doesn’t think it will sideline him long. He’ll undergo surgery during the August recess, and expects to return after a “brief recuperation,” the 65-year-old said. “It’s something that’s very common among men my age.”

Dodd has been one of the central figures in the health care debate, running the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee in Edward Kennedy’s absence. He says the cancer won’t affect his 2010 reelection bid. “As you have probably noticed, I’m working some long and hard hours lately,” he said. “And that will continue.”

Just hope they catch it quick enough....a prostectomy can be devastating to the Male psyche, in addition to all the obvious cancer issues, there may be incontinance both fecal and urinary, erectile dysfunction, urinary issues that may require a catheter....yikes...all politics aside I hope he does well.....despite what I think of the person....

I suggest you read Canada's Self study on the flaws of their health care system . The first thing they did was enact a law changing it from a right to a privilege to stop the lawsuits. They are also considering reversing the banning of private health care supplementary insurance paid out of pocket. Never mind the posturing about how wonderful the system is - just go to their own report and learn some facts.

The Hartford hospitals are the leaders in prostate surgery - daVinci - and are known for training doctors all over the country. Yale is also superb. So, where does Dodd go? New York. Oh, well, he did live in Iowa when he was running for president. I'm surprised that he didn't go there. He has no trust in CT. We have no trust in him. I'm sorry that he has to join the group of those who have this problem - so far I know 5 others - but, I ask - why doesn't he go to Canada or England? Or Cuba? Perhaps it is because those 2 countries are trying to fix their broken single payer system and are moving towards what we currently have. There is irony in that.
