Post Pulls Reporters' Video After 'Mad Bitch' Hillary Joke

Share

(Newser) Washington Post political writers Dana Milbank and Chris Cillizza are taking a drubbing over a video spoof in which they suggest brands of beer for the top names in politics—including "Mad Bitch" for Hillary Clinton. When bloggers drew attention to that line, in particular, the Post pulled the video from its website because it "went too far," notes Michael Calderone of Politico.

Sample criticism, from Megan Garber in Columbia Journalism Review: The video "manages to be both glibly insulting and extraordinarily un-funny." The duo's "status as (ostensibly) reporters means that they owe us more than lame-puns-for-the-sake-of-lame-puns, as per the typical humor of late-night TV." Milbank and Cillizza take aim at politicians in both parties (Hell Bier for Republican leaders) and suggest "Jackass Oatmeal Stout" for themselves.

The video in question could have been—relatively—trenchant. It could have been, given the participants, witty/revealing/justified. Instead, “Ménage à Stella Artois” simply mocks itself. - Megan Garber,

How about "Draft Dodgers" and "Sex On The Pews" for Republicans -- "Anything Goes Lite" for the libertarians, and "Pale Male" for the Democrats?

What a yawn, Caps. They already nailed both parties, and as mildly funny as it was at least they understood the point was to use beers already named, for the most part, anyway, so I'm guessing they all were indie beers already named. The video was saved by media matters, if anyone missed it.

And who drinks "Hypocrisy Hops" (200-proof AND non-alcohol) and "Birther Brew" (Obama's Birth Certificate at the bottom of every bottle)?
