Legendary Hawaiian entertainer Don Ho dead at 76

(Newser) – Don Ho, perhaps the best known Hawaiian entertainer ever, died yesterday at age 76 of heart failure. Ho worked Waikiki as its leading entertainer for 43 years, performing his last show just a few days before his death. He is best known for his song "Tiny Bubbles."

Ho both represented Hawaii as its foremost cultural ambassador and reflected it . He was born Donald Tai Loy Ho and was of Hawaiian, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch and German heritage.

Sion Milosky, a 35-year-old Hawaii native, was surfing 20-foot waves at the renowned Mavericks surf break when he went under and got held there by two successive waves. (NEWSER) - Suze Rotolo, the inspiration behind many of Bob Dylan’s early songs and his girlfriend in New York during the early 1960s, died last week at 67 following a long illness. Rotolo appeared on the cover of The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan; their relationship led Dylan to pen classics like “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” and “Boots of Spanish Leather,” reports Rolling Stone . (NEWSER) - Reggae superstar Gregory Isaacs died at his London home today at age 59 after a battle with lung cancer, the Washington Post reports. Isaacs was known for popularizing “lover’s rock,” a reggae style that dealt with romance and relationships rather than the political themes embraced by the likes of Bob Marley and Burning Spear. (NEWSER) - Ronnie James Dio, the legendary heavy metal singer who replaced Ozzy Osbourne as Black Sabbath's frontman, died today. He was 61 or 67, according to the LA Times , and suffered from stomach cancer. "Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away," his wife, Wendy, said in a statement. "Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all." More»
