(Newser) – Town hall crazies, you have met your match. Rep. Barney Frank had no time for a woman who asked why he supported Barack Obama's "Nazi" policies, calling it "vile, contemptible nonsense" and asking, "On what planet do you spend most of your time?" When the questioner pushed back, the House Financial Services Committee chair dismissed her: "Trying to have a conversation with you would be like arguing with a dining room table."

I heard him speaking yesterday... this man is a true politician. He can evade answering a direct question like nobody else. There were wackos in the crowd, but there were also intelligent "right wingers." One question was - after the economic meltdown including the failure of Fannie Mae and other govt runned mortgage companies, why did you announce in 2002 and 2004 that they were doing well even tho people were starting to be concerned about subprime loans. His answer, "well it cost less than the Iraq war." He never answered the question and told the man asking it, why he was trying to disrupt the meeting. Reply

Well and Clinton loosened the guidelines on deritives being traded on the secondary market. Meaning, mortgage notes traded on the secondary market. This was good for a little while until people got greedy and guidelines got looser and everyone was able to buy a house they really could not afford. Bush and McCain, along with some others in Congress asked for more regulation on derivites and in the housing market about 3 and a half years ago, they said if some regulation (yes Rep. asked for regulation in mortgage industry) was not put into place now, this going to fall apart. Which it did! The Dem. Congress said NO. Barney Frank said everything was fine and Obama defended the losening of the mortg regulations, saying let the poor people have houses! Nice in theory, but it doesn't work. Everyone wishes that EVERYONE in America could have FREE healthcare. The problem is, it DOESN'T Exist. It's not Free. Someone is going to be paying for it. What about the millions who could have health Ins and choose not to?? I wish we could all have Free Healthcare, but you have to look at cause and effect. Even if there was a puiblic option there would still be millions without healthcare and it would make things worse foe those that do have it. No system will help everyone all the time. It is not a perfect world and sadly, that's life. So many in other countries have Gov healthcare, and yet, tey cannot et into to see a Dr, so what's the point. Waiting lists, months long for a cancer patient to get tests done. Something needs to be done, but no matter what is done, it will not be perfect and will not help everyone and there will still be fraud, etc.

@mlp, how is it going to make it worse for those with insurance? Having real competition for private insurers which will bring down premiums is going to totally suck. Bring down premiums for small business is going to suck royally for the owner and employee - they might actually get paid more. That sucks.

I do hate our country's 'business of doing government" and the fact that corporations have more first amendment rights than citizens and can pretty much buy politicians. Receiving money doesn't automatically mean a quid pro quo though--they ALL receive money from these criminal enterprises that call themselves big business. I have thought though it wouldn't be so bad to move to a "democratic" 3rd world country where I could afford to own a few politicians myself. Reply

Funny how those who actually read the bill and have done reearch are against it. Yet, those who are for it, have no idea what's in it or how it works! It just sounds good to have Free Health Care! I think people should have to take a test in order to vote. It is so ridiculous how uneducated people are! Hello, even people who want Gov run healthcare, do not want this particular bill! AT LAST ... I just wrote my Congressman John Lewis pointing to this YouTube piece. I asked him to come out unafraid against these completely unreasonable people who are so incorrect in their understanding of this bill as Frank has. It's time to remove the gloves and put these people in their place. Democratic politicians tend to be so wimpy, no matter their correct ideas on policy. And this is, its the govs job to set boundries and let the market work. perhaps removing some of the heavy gov. control in health care would do more to spur competition than adding a gov. subsidized insurace company. I have had MANY diagreements with what Barney Frank has done and what he "Stands For"..... HOWEVER........................... ................ GREAT JOB BARNEY ..........
