Ben & Jerry's Salutes Gay Marriage With 'Hubby Hubby'

Free ice cream celebrates Vermont's new law

Share

(Newser) – What better way to celebrate gay marriage than free ice cream? Ben & Jerry’s is doing just that in its home state of Vermont, where “Chubby Hubby” will be temporarily renamed “Hubby Hubby” and handed out for free today, the Boston Herald reports. The move has its inevitable opponents, with one activist calling it a “bad idea,” because “they’re just doing it to rub it in that Vermont has legalized gay marriage.”

Gay marriage backers, however, are grateful for the support. “I look forward to the day when ‘Hubby Hubby’ is available in supermarkets in all 50 states," says one. The Ben & Jerry’s CEO adds, “The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction, and something worth celebrating with peace, love—and plenty of free ice cream.”
