British Bridges Duel on Twitter

London Bridge Tweeters mercilessly mock Tower Bridge's dreary updates

(Newser) – Britain's best-known bridges are battling it out on Twitter, the Daily Telegraph reports. The steady stream of monotonous updates from London's Tower Bridge's official Twitter feed—"I am opening for the SB Lady Daphne, which is passing upstream"—inspired someone to set up a spoof account for nearby London Bridge, relentlessly mocking its rival.

"If you took a film of @towerbridge and speeded it up, it would look like the world's least exciting pinball machine. Without any balls," says one typical London Bridge tweet. On the other side of the country, tweeters channeling the Wales-to-England Severn Bridge and Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge are also engaged in a bitter dispute over who's superior.

I am the best bridge. Unlike those johnny-come-lately bridges in the big smoke I've been spanning the Avon Gorge since 1864, reads one update from the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

The Severn Bridge's Twitter account has been mocking the Clifton Suspension Bridge for its failure to accept 5 pence coins in its toll booths.

When are you going to do something again? You're even more boring when you're just sitting there. Yawn, reads of one London Bridge's jibes at Tower Bridge.
