(Newser) – A detective hunting for snatched British toddler Madeleine McCann believes she could be in a secret lair like the place kidnap victim Jaycee Dugard was held for 18 years in California, reports the Independent. “Maddy is most likely being held captive, possibly in an underground cellar, and could emerge at any time,” said retired Ulster cop Dave Edgar.

Though the search for Maddy has ranged as far away as Australia, Edgar believes Maddy is being held within miles of the Portugal resort where the 3-year-old was kidnapped 2 years ago during a family vacation.

I agree, but all the 'experts' say the odds are so slim - I just hope the detective isn't confusing hope with reality. What ever the outcome, it's worth saying a little prayer and directing a little positive energy tpwards the kid - where ever she is.

Jaycee's reappearance must have given them hope. Im just worried that they might have gotten their hopes up too high and they might be crushed again. I've been following this case since day 1 and i really wish they find her!

the detective's theory is certainly plausible and more welcome than other grim outcomes. and there have been manyl abducted children of all ages who have been hidden away in all types of bunkers and cellars etc. the bottom line is you can never give up hope.
