Bush Disses Obama, Palin in Aide's Book

Obama 'has no clue,' while Palin isn't 'remotely prepared'

Share

(Newser) – George Bush apparently didn't think much of Barack Obama as a candidate. “This is a dangerous world, and this cat isn’t remotely qualified to handle it," he's quoted in a new book as saying. "This guy has no clue, I promise you.” GQ has excerpts of Speech-Less: Tales of a White House Survivor, by speechwriter Matt Latimer, in which Bush also dismisses Sarah Palin as a candidate and John McCain's campaign in general.

“This is a five-spiral crash, boys,” he tells his Oval Office compatriots. Of Palin, he joked, “What is she, the governor of Guam?” He turned charitable—“she’s interesting”—before making what Latimer calls a “smart assessment.” “This woman is being put into a position she is not even remotely prepared for,” Bush said. “She hasn’t spent one day on the national level.”

It was a rare dose of reality in a White House that liked to believe every decision was great, every Republican was a genius, and McCain was the hope of the world because, well, because he chose to be a member of our party. - Matt Latimer, on Bush's Palin comment

“I’m trying to remember if I’ve met her before. I’m sure I must have.” His eyes twinkled, then he asked, “What is she, the governor of Guam?” - Former President George W. Bush on Sarah Palin, in an excerpt from Latimer's book

Even Bush saw Palin was not a smart choice as a running mate. I was SO disappointed in John McCain's campaign. Reply

Oh, I suppose Obama with ALL of his experience(short stint as a state legislator and even shorter stint as a US Senator- in Chicago Magazine he promised that he would finish his Senate term and not seek the Presidency) has so much more experience than a person who has been a Mayor and Governor?? Get real. They both could have used more experience and were equally ill prepared for higher office.

@Philly, it has very little to do with experience and much more to do with capability. Palin couldn't talk the talk when pressed on national and international issues. Obama showed everyone that he could.
