Carter: Wilson's Heckling of Obama 'Based on Racism'

Share

(AP) – Former President Jimmy Carter says Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst during President Obama's speech last week was an act "based on racism." Carter says Wilson's comment was part of an "inherent feeling" of some that a black man should not be president. In responding to a question at a town-hall meeting at his presidential center in Atlanta, Carter also called Wilson's comment "dastardly" and said the president should be treated with respect.

It is certainly not all Republicans who are racist. They are the party for white racists, though . . . The problem for the non-racist Republicans is Reagan's 11th Commandment. As long as they are unwilling to criticize each other, they will be a sick, dysfunctional party.

@Robert_Dada: I'll own up that there are as many racists in the Republican party as there is in the Democratic party. Racism knows no party line. How ignorant to think that only Republicans are capable of racism.
