John Edwards Ready to Admit Paternity—But Not Elizabeth

She 'has yet to be brought around'

(Newser) – John Edwards once insisted on national TV that he did not father his mistress’ daughter. But secluded at his 100-acre estate in tony Chapel Hill, Edwards is now close to a public reversal—if he can convince his wife to let him, the New York Times reports. Elizabeth Edwards “has yet to be brought around,” says one family friend, perhaps peeved that her husband reportedly promised Rielle Hunter he’d marry her in a rooftop ceremony after his wife’s death.

Meanwhile, the federal investigation into the affair continues, and prosecutors are puzzled trying to determine whether the hush money paid to Hunter amounts to campaign donations. All this as a former Edwards aide is readying a tell-all in which he says Edwards pressured him into claiming paternity—and as Hunter and her daughter plan a move from New Jersey to the Edwards' home state of North Carolina.

Ms. Hunter gave her daughter the middle name Quinn, and people who have spoken with her said its resemblance to the Latin prefix for five was to proclaim that the baby was Mr. Edwards’s fifth child. - Neil A. Lewis, New York Times

Her not accepting the child shows that she isn't loving or caring, but hateful and vengful. The child doesn't have to suffer unless you want to continue the hate. The mistress shouldn't be put on a pedastal but Elizabeths is just as bad, because she is hurting someone that can't defend themselves and is innocent. She isn't the only person to have a husband get their mistress preg. And she won't be the only person to take their revenge out of the child. In some ways I consider her actions just as bad as John's was.

What John Edwards can not be forgiven for is effectively manipulating the Democratic Party's campaign leading to the naming of a candidate for President. How outrageous of him to chastise President Clinton's affair while having one of his own while campaigning to become President. Had he never run, or dropped out early on when he would have had the common sense to realize that this affair could not be kept secret forever, the history of the Presidency of the United States could be different today.

Why should we let him deal w/ his personal issues without our scrutiny? He was living a LIE while he was running to be the next President. John Edwards professed family values while living a LIE to the people who gave him large sums of money to his campaign. He LIED like a back ally thief while running for President of the United States all the time smiling and acting holier then thou and betraying the voters who voted for him....fuck him!
