Fie on the Office Wedding

Jim and Pam are the height of bland

Share

(Newser) – After 5 years of the will-they-or-won't-they dance, Jim and Pam of The Office will tie the knot in the Oct. 8 episode, and the prenuptial PR blitz has sent one blogger around the bend. "We're already sick of these two insufferable lovebirds," enemy of drawn-out romance Brian Moylan writes for Gawker. "Christ, it took them two years just to freakin' kiss! And now their engagement, which has been prolonged since last season's premiere, is the same way."

The last straw seems to have been the cover of next week's issue of Entertainment Weekly, which features the happy fake couple sporting daisies behind their ears. "Jim and Pam are everyman anchors in a sitcom full of crazy people," Moylan grouses. "That makes them just like the cashiers at the supermarket: you're glad that they're there, you have to be nice to them, but you really don't care about what happens to them outside of work."

The other reason we hate sitcom weddings is the same reason we hate when celebrities go to rehab, because all the fun stuff has already happened. - Brian Moylan, Gawker

Lame article. It's more pointless than the pointlessness they're writing about. Reply

Yeah, the only way to produce something more meaningless than a sitcom wedding episode (for a decent sitcom, admittedly) is to write something angry about it.

The romantic/sexual tension between 'Tim' and 'Dawn' was the main arc of the original Office. Tim made plays at Dawn and while we as an audience knew how she felt, she turned him down. It was only when a Christmas Special was made that Ricky Gervais & Steve Merchant were kind enough to put the public out of its misery and bring the two together. That was the end of the Office UK. A wedding should signal the end of the American Office, cos after that it's all downhill. Reply

It'd just suck to see them in shark-jumping territory.
