Quaids' Wild Ride a Tale of Drugs, Paranoia

Texas arrest for stiffing hotel bill is just the tip of the iceberg

(Newser) – The arrest of Randy and Evi Quaid in Texas for stiffing a California hotel is only the latest twist in a bizarre tale of unpaid bills and paranoid fantasies. A private investigator hired by the Quaids—she’s out $17,000—tells Diane Dimond the actor and his wife owe tens of thousands on hotel rooms and rental cars, and they may be dangerously unstable. Evi snorts Demerol to cure migraines and believes a murder plot is afoot.

The PI tells Dimond, writing for the Daily Beast, that Evi thinks Michael Jackson and “Heath Ledger, Chris Penn, David Carradine, Natasha Richardson, and other stars” who appeared with Randy onscreen are being assassinated. Evi also told the PI almost daily that she and Randy were “going to end up like Phil and Bryn Hartman"—the Saturday Night Live star whose wife killed him before taking her own life.

I understand about freedom of speech and all that, but I am considering legal action. - Texas sheriff's deputy James Davis; Evi Quaid parked a truck outside his office painted with "Deputy James Davis takes payments ... call & make offers"
