CNN's iPhone App Is a Winner

Well-designed add-on makes life easier for network's video-savvy citizen journalists

(Newser) – CNN’s iPhone app is well-designed and intuitive, with enough features to more than justify its $2 price tag. The app makes good use of the iPhone interface, offering different scrolling navigations for stories depending on the handset’s orientation, writes Eliot Van Buskirk for Wired. But perhaps the most interesting feature is the way it integrates with CNN’s iReport service: Videos can easily be shot and edited with the iPhone OS and uploaded to CNN.

Besides citizen journalism, the app offers access to CNN Live, CNN.com’s streaming video service, and local news, which include stories from competing local publications. The app allows the user to set keywords of interest and stores relevant stories in the iPhone’s cache—a convenient feature that gives users news to read when out of a service area.

I hope they get some decent citizen journalists from the app, since their so-called 'professional journalists' aren't worth warm spit.

Seems good, but there are so many free news apps out there, I'd find it hard to justify (the measly) $2 for it...
