Brown, Labour Fuming After Murdoch Backs Conservatives

Share

(Newser) – Gordon Brown is livid and his colleagues in the Labour Party are ripping up copies of the Sun in public after Rupert Murdoch ended 12 years of support and backed Conservative David Cameron this week. “We don't need an Australian-American coming to our country with a paper that has never supported any progressive policies ... telling us how politics should be run in this country," said one union leader.

Brown nearly stormed off a subsequent interview on Murdoch's Sky News, notes the Independent, accusing the interviewer of being a "political propagandist." Murdoch's move is a blow to Brown's ever-shrinking chances of avoiding election defeat next year, and the Guardian lays out how the media mogul's relations with Cameron—whom he once denounced as a "lightweight"—began to warm up with a private dinner last year, followed by a visit to Murdoch's yacht.

If government didn't allow corporations to become so powerful it would matter little whether they supported your party or not. Corporations do what is in their best interests, not the government or nation's best interests. Reply

Murdoch's corp is at war with the civil rights of all nations. His propoganda machine is not a news machine. It doesn't represent free thought. It should be put to sleep. Reply

“We don't need an Australian-American coming to our country with a paper that has never supported any progressive policies ... telling us how politics should be run in this country," WHEN WILL AMERICANS SAY THE SAME, AND TELL THIS CREATON TO GET THE HELL OUT? My apologies for the capslock outburst. Reply
