David Letterman wasn’t planning to talk anymore about his extortion scandal, “but it seems like people want to talk about it,” he said on last night’s Late Show. After apologizing to the staff for subjecting them to “hounding” from reporters, he made it clear that, “No, I’m not having sex with these women. Those episodes are in the past.” He then moved on to his wife, who “has been horribly hurt by my behavior.”

“Let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me,” he said of fixing his relationship with wife Regina Lasko, but “through all of the heartache, and the attention, and the embarrassment, I still feel like I did the right thing” by coming forward. “And now, also,” he ended, “because what can it hurt, I’d also like to apologize to the former governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin. I’m terribly, terribly sorry.” (More David Letterman stories.)
