Chris Rock Wants to Be Your Black Friend

Comedian lands film that could—or could not—be an insightful look at race relations

(Newser) – Now’s your chance to make Chris Rock your black friend: the comedian will star in Will You Be My Black Friend? The film's based on the GQ article of the same name, chronicling author Devin Friedman’s attempt to diversify his circle of white buddies.

Combine Friedman’s “acerbic wit and Rock’s comedic timing,” and you could end up with “a comedy with a razor-sharp political-cultural edge,” writes Emily Riemer in Paste. Then again, it’s being produced by Oprah’s Harpo Films, which is “known for melodramas”—so let’s hope for the best.

That's a hell of a concept, alright. Imagine trying to befriend the real Chris Rock, and not just a character played by Chris Rock. Now,that would be a long, painful trip. I mean, you'd have to really want to be abused, wouldn't you? I shudder at the thought. Reply

I think most of the people on the show won't have a problem - I reckon a couple of million dollars attached to a famous face go a long way in increasing the number of folks happy to be your biatch for free cocktails and the occasional spin off!

Scratch Chris Rock and insert Dave Chappelle. And change the title character's name to Tyrone Biggums. Problem solved. Reply
