US Olympics Chief Will Step Down

Streeter's decision follows Chicago bid, no-confidence vote

(AP) – With the sting of Chicago's loss still fresh, the acting chief of the US Olympic Committee has decided to step down before being pushed out. Stephanie Streeter said today she will not seek the job on a permanent basis and will leave by March. The decision comes five days after Chicago's first-round exit in the 2016 competition and on the same day leaders of America's Olympic sports organizations completed a survey that can be viewed only one way: Streeter must go.

By a vote of 40-0, the leaders responded "no" to the question, "Do you believe the acting CEO has the ability to be an effective leader of the Olympic Movement?" The USOC will hire a national recruiting firm to search for Streeter's replacement by the end of the month. Streeter said she realized some people would view her decision as a direct result of the Chicago vote, but said she "made this decision prior to the bid."

We were disappointed when she told us she did not want to be considered for the CEO position. She's done an excellent job and we're all very grateful for her many contributions to the US Olympic movement. - USOC chairman Larry Probst

She was essentially voted out. It states in the article that "...leaders of America's Olympic sports organizations completed a survey that can be viewed only one way: Streeter must go." It was unanimous, too, so they evidently had good reason to send her packing. I don't think it would have been unanimous if it were simply a matter of her being made a scapegoat. And it is a personnel matter, after all, therefore, the USOC is not beholden to us to make the actual reasons for this vote public.

Blaming Streeter? What did she do what was wrong? This article fails to elaborate the reason.

Net, you have an excellent point. Some, but not all, Americans display an arrogant attitude towards the international community. You can't win everything. That's what sports is about. The IOC may have wanted a South American country to hold the Olympics.
