(Newser) – Heading into prime leaf-peeper season, Travel + Leisure leads a pack of sites offering fun and affordable trip ideas. Serve yourself a double portion of red, ochre, and yellow at the Celtic Colours International Festival in Nova Scotia. Or, if Canada seems too far away, swing by the Pumpkin Festival in Keene, NH. 

For more active leafing, hike up to New York's Catskill Mountains or bike through Mount Desert Island's 45 miles of rustic carriage roads in Maine. If wheels are more your speed, cruise down the Blue Ridge Parkway from Virginia to North Carolina, or traverse the Historic National Road in Maryland.
