Given the adoring crowds he’s attracted in, say, Berlin, one would think President Obama would have a number of public appearances scheduled during a quick jaunt to San Francisco beginning tomorrow. But evidently, his staff is so worried about rabid lefties that Obama’s just dropping in for an evening fundraiser, then jetting out next morning. Yes, rabid lefties.
Anti-war folks, the gay community or various other Code Pink-ish threats from the liberal jungle have a former White House official still shivering over a 2000 campaign stop by Al Gore. Gore found himself on the spot when a “transvestite kept asking if he would support public funding for sex changes,” Chris Lehane tells the Chronicle. “No matter how you answered, you get in trouble.” Still, Code Pink organizers plan protests, and at least one has tickets to the Obama event.
