Fox Apologizes for Jessica Simpson Weight Jokes

Calls cartoon a 'poor attempt at humor'

(Newser) – Fox sucked it up and apologized for an NFL Sunday skit in which cartoon versions of the Dallas Cowboys made fun of Jessica Simpson’s weight. “Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was insensitive,” Fox said in a statement to US Weekly. It also pointed out that segment sponsor Burger King “did not have any editorial input.”

BK also issued a statement disavowing any responsibility. The cartoon doesn’t actually feature Simpson; it depicts a fictional chat in the Cowboys locker room in which other players mock Tony Romo for dating her. “Say Tony is Jessica around? We could use a defensive tackle!” quips the cartoon Wade Phillips.
