As CBS questions investigation, police paint Sahel Kazemi as unstable

(Newser) – Nashville police released 50 text messages between Steve McNair and Sahel Kazemi, the woman they believe killed him before killing herself, last night—on the heels of a CBS Early Show report claiming the investigation was flawed, the AP reports. The text messages show McNair transferred $2,000 into Kazemi's account after she asked for it to pay cell phone bills, hours before the deaths—and also paint a picture of Kazemi's increasing stress in those hours.

Kazemi texted McNair on July 3 to say she was so stressed she might have a breakdown and asked for the money. She also said she might need to go to a hospital because she could hardly breathe. Kazemi later texted McNair three times asking to be with him that night. He said he was having trouble getting his sons to sleep, though he was seen at a restaurant with friends at the time. Kazemi texted she was going to his condo; he texted back that he was on his way and asked her to open the front door. CBS' report also points out an apparent error in the police timeline that calls into question whether Kazemi truly bought a fully loaded pistol on July 2.

(NEWSER) - California police believe they've found another case of a family wiped out in a murder-suicide—the second such tragedy in eight days, reports the AP . The discovery of the body of a man who apparently leaped to his death from a highway overpass near San Diego led investigators to a home where the corpses of his lover and her two young children were found. Just last week a man, his wife, and their two daughters were found drowned in the pool and bathtub of their San Diego home in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide likely carried out by the father. (NEWSER) - An Iraq war veteran killed his pregnant wife and young daughter before turning the gun on himself, and police are having a tough time figuring out why. The bodies of Matthew Magdzas, 23, April Oles-Magdzas, 26, and 13-month-old Lila, along with their three dogs, were found Wednesday—the day April was set to give birth to the couple's second daughter—in the family's home in Superior, Wis., but Magdzas left no clues to explain his actions, the AP reports. (NEWSER) - A gravely wounded 3-year-old boy hid in a garbage can for 12 hours after his father fatally shot his mom, then killed himself, according to law enforcement authorities. Police followed a trail of blood to the trash can where they found the boy bleeding from 3 gunshot wounds to his shoulder, stomach and chest. His parents lay dead on lawn chairs outside the Anaheim home, and his uninjured 5-year-old brother was hiding elsewhere in the house.
