Share

(Newser) – A child's body found in a Georgia landfill has been identified as Somer Thompson, a 7-year-old Florida girl missing since Monday. The local sheriff told reporters that police were now in "full investigation mode" after discovering the corpse. Somer, who was identified from her clothes and a birthmark, disappeared while walking home from school—after quarreling with another girl, she walked ahead of the group and was never seen again.

The body of Somer Thompson, who went missing on Monday, was found in a landfill today.

No matter how many times one reads or hears about something like this, I'm still sickened by the thought of it and baffled by the mindset that causes someone to perpetrate it. Reply

I'm even more baffled by the people with bleeding hearts who defend the trash that does this. I'm not talking about attorneys, I mean there is due process here and trials, but I'm talking about the people who wish to pour over and agonize over the perpetrator and their plight, lot in life, etc.

Hear hear! The killers should not have their names pasted all over the news. It results in others seeing a spectacular way to make their names known as well. But it is not just bleeding hearts who contribute to this, it is anybody who watches even in disgust. Eyeballs are eyeballs for advertisers and programming directors. It doesn't matter if they're liberal bleeding hearts or conservative vigilantes.

@paul - While I do believe the circumstances of our lives shape us, I do not consider it an excuse to rape and kill. And the flip side of the point you were making is that it is equally baffling how many people are convicted in the media before the trial has even started. Both issues impair our justice system.
