(Newser) – The US Navy and Guatemalan forces have seized a makeshift submarine carrying 10 tons of cocaine. Three Colombians and a Mexican crewman were arrested on board. The haul is the biggest drug bust ever made in Guatemala, which has become a major transit point for drug traffickers seeking to secure supply lines as Mexico steps up its war on drugs.

think again you americans should understand suppply-side economics; youre government works in that framework. there is a great demand in america for drugs, and your market has pushed the prices sky high. the best profits are to be made in these industries, tax free. who can blame blame people from wanting to get in on the industry - the fact that it is informal is not the prooblem, its the extreme nature of illegality applied to the drug war. this make punishements harsh, but the gamble-like profits enormous. the american dream has become the great american addiction to drugs. rampant drug use is a symptom of an unhealthy society, of which we can all say is very much the truth across the US. "fix" this problem; why people do drugs. very few drugs are extremely addictive; the big three; crack, crystal, heroin. as they say, "you dont try those drugs, you do them " go after these drugs harshly, but abandon criminal status on all of the other drugs. regulate the inputs closely, but not the final product. afteral, the FDA tries to ensure minimal mercury, pesticices etc in our produce, but not the vitamin c content. tax the profits, in a big way similar to that of alcohol, but not as high as tobacco. we need to give credit to each industries (indirect) costs to society. this applies to marijuana in particular, but also to mushrooms, cocaine, lsd, mdma and such derivatives and most-all other plants such as ayrusca. take the risks out of production and distribution and people will have a more open, healthy and sustainable relationship with drug cultures. people will do drugs, but their use patterns are informed by the society's general health. this could go on. i wonder what responses will come of this
