Behar tells her to 'stop it'

(Newser) – Conservative screed scribe Ann Coulter insisted yesterday that every presidential assassin in history has been a liberal. "They're all liberals—assassin by assassin by assassin," she spilled on CNN's Joy Behar Show. An angry Behar retorted: "Wait a minute. Don't make that jump from murder, terrorist to liberals. That is an outrageous statement. They're not liberals, Ann. They're murderers, terrorists. Stop it."

Coulter further described every presidential killer as "some kind of left-wing loon, communist, anarchist, communitarian." Coulter offered her observations in response to Bahar's comments about the shocking number of threats against President Obama. "Well, maybe liberals are a little racist," Coulter remarked.

See, if she were Megan Fox we'd all be having a cow. Coulter and Ingram, back in the day of few young, blond short-skirted conservatives realized that as right -wing they had a career. For years now, she gets press; makes money by saying the most outrageous things. That is her job. Behar was a funny, young comic from Brooklyn. Now, they both participate in this thing which is no thing at all because it names Behar's show and Coulter has a book coming out. If you want to remember history--then all assassins are anti-government whether anarchists or whatever. When was the last time you heard a liberal who was anti-government? This is just capitalism played as politics. If either of them had real talent, they'd drop the political fairy tale they play and be Helen Mirren.

But wait a minute, Behar is making a connection between conservatives and libertarians and threats against Obama, and it's OK, and when AC makes a connection between liberals and presidential assassins, and it's not OK? I think Behar's comment about them being murderers, and no connection need be made to their political leanings, is correct, but she wasn't following her own advice earlier by comparing the political leanings of people with threats made.

not a liberal...but possibly a democrat...THEY tried to stop the republicans from passing the first civil rights bills...way back when...also came up with the Jim Crow laws...and don't forget..the Confederates were primarily DEMOCRAT...the big ole switcheroo didn't start in til the 1930's or so, and the majority of white southerners didnt start a big switch to Republicanism until around the 1980's...as for the rest of the assasinations..need to do some looking around...besides the dems and repubs of THAT time were much different than they are now

Riff, do you favor states' rights and strict adherence to the Constitution? Do you oppose a national (central) bank? The party you claim are the same as modern day Democrats was actually the Democratic-Republican Party, they were mostly farmers who opposed a strong central government. If I remember correctly, the D-R party split over who would succeed president Monroe. Supporters of Jeffersonian principles, led by Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren, became the Democratic Party. Those principles can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffersonian_democracy -- Riff, your analogy that historic Democrats are the same as modern Democrats is as uniformed as Mr. Coulter's statement in this article.

Very good summary, Fond. It really shouldn't be necessary except for the very poor foundation people get in public school. You either have to love reading about history and have a family willing to discuss it with you or take college level AP courses in order to know anything about the politics and issues of the 1850s. The other description for these people were that they were nobodies until the assassination. Perhaps the only Presidential assassin the mold does not fit was John Wilkes Booth, a famous actor from a family of prestigious actors (for a modern equivalent, think of someone like a son of actor Martin Sheen killing a Republican President - and the Booth family was more prestigious than that). Also, Booth's plot was, unlike all the others a conspiracy, and his purpose was to defend the Confederacy by a decapitation strike on the Union. Reply

Annie Okley was not a conservative and she liked guns. The final line of national defense is the local malitia. It is the duty of all able bodied citizens to at least have a firearm.
