Afghan Surge Gains Favor; Public Sours on DC

Support for public option also grows; GOP isn't more popular, though

(Newser) – New poll numbers out today hold good news and bad for the Obama administration. Support is rising for a troop surge in Afghanistan, the NBC/Wall Street Journal survey finds, and nearly half now favor a public option in the health-care reform measures now under consideration. The bad news: 58% said the economy is still in the tank, a 6% increase from September.

Both Democratic and Republican pollsters seem to agree that the public’s mood is decidedly anti-Washington, with numbers showing a decline in support for the GOP, which in most instances would gain during tough times for President Obama and the Democrats. “There was a bounce-back surge for Republicans, and that’s stalled,” a GOP pollster says; notes a Democrat: “The mood in America may be blue, but attitudes toward Washington are just jet black.”

Please, let's not use the word "surge". That was a particularly asinine euphemism invented by the Bush Whitehouse's 1984 Doublespeak Department. Reply

Obama is so out of his league as president. His inept presidency evokes memories of the "malaize" of the Jimmy Carter years.

I find it hilarious, how people like dontlikeyou who have never served their country, are encouraging another surge. Tropps are over deployed, so while all you couch warriors are continually proclaiming the surge should go forward, think about the service members and their families.

Your point about the over deployment of troops is well taken. Though I voted for Obama, I support McCain's stance on the need to increase the size of the Army and Marine Corps. I don't remember what Obama stance on that was during the campaign, but it seems like no brainer to me. 'Course I don't understand why we still need troops in Germany and Japan after sixty some odd years. But what do I know?
