Go to Harvard, Study The Wire

Series focuses on different aspects of urban life

(Newser) The Wire is about to get an Ivy League makeover. Harvard plans to offer a course on the HBO series about life in Baltimore's ghettos, the New York Post reports. The show "has done more to enhance our understanding of the challenges of urban life and the problems of urban inequality, more than any other media event or scholarly publication," said William J. Wilson, the well-known African-American history professor—and huge fan of The Wire—who will teach the class.

But the move isn't quite as ground-breaking as the show, notes the Post: Duke and Middlebury have also offered courses on the series.

Best show ever. Especially if you like cursing and drinking. A drama of Shakespearean proportions.

The Wire is my favorite show of all time. If your a wire fan check out The Corner. It was written by the guys that made the Wire and aired about a year before the Wire came out. Its only 5 or 6 episodes but pretty good. Very similar to the wire but more about life on the streets in the ghettos of Baltimore... Also Generation Kill is another show the writers of the Wire made. It follows an Elite group of Marines(Marine force recon) through the invasion of Iraq. Its based off the book which is also fantastic....It really seems anything David Simon makes is gold.

The best ghetto show I've ever seen without the risk of an old white man getting his self shot for the experience. Now I would like to know what the people who live there, think of the representation.
