(Newser) – Thousands of health care reform protesters gathered in Washington today as part of Michele Bachmann’s “Super Bowl of Freedom.” Participants wielding signs like “Waterboard Congress” and chanting "kill the bill" congregated outside the Capitol to hear Bachmann, other GOP lawmakers, and even Jon Voight assail the reform legislation as too costly and too partisan. “Are they going to listen?” Bachmann asked the crowd. “Oh, yeah, they’re going to listen.”

Protesters also planned to visit the corridors of the Capitol, part of Bachmann’s plan to confront recalcitrant legislators, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports. Says the Democratic National Committee: "If the Republican party wants to make Michele Bachmann the voice of the party, that's more than fine with us."

[Gregg Levine, FDL] "So, loyal Democrats, true public servants, elected representatives of the people’s will, keep this in mind (because I hear you say stuff like this all the time): you don’t negotiate with terrorists. The GOP is out to unravel the system; I am counting on you, members of the Democratic caucus, and all lovers of democracy, to defend it. Ignore the stampede, don’t step in the dung, keep your hand on Constitution (preamble and all), and your eyes on the prize. Pass healthcare reform with a robust public option, and you can say: we didn’t let the terrorists win."

@dive - no, more like the followers of beck, palin, armey et al. those of you who follow so blindly truly have no clue. hows about cutting off your nose to spite your face? keep trying to shut down health care reform, sheep, and if in fact you nuts are successful, (and i truly hope you are not), don't come bleating when you are desperately ill and have no means in which to get well save for emergency visits, that we all pay for because you can't. of course you could plead to the palins, the beck's etc. for contributions to pay for your medical dilemma.
