(Newser) – Brittany Murphy, who made a splash playing the makeover victim in Clueless and later battled substance abuse, died today in Los Angeles. She was 32. The LA Fire Department was called to a home owned by Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack, where she was found in cardiac arrest and could not be revived, TMZ reports and multiple sources are confirming.

The LAPD and the county coroner will investigate the death of the actress, who also appeared in 8 Mile and Don't Say a Word. In an unfortunate coincidence, Saturday Night Live parodied her during "Weekend Update" on the Dec. 5 episode. See the video at left.

She was twelve years older than my son who overdosed on legal heroin. Actually, not heroin, synthetic morphine called oxymorphon by generic and Opana by the company that sees no problem with selling a pill that is twelve times stronger than some crap you can buy on the street. At least drug dealers, like any parasite have a vested interest in keeping you alive. Big Pharma? They could give a rat's ass cause they live on quantity. When, I tried to tell the surgeon that prescribed this pain killer to my after surgery son that he should ask if you have a fucking drug problem he acted like I was a snit. Well, when people get habituated --not addicted to narcotics--they don't feel the pain relief tll their respiratory system shuts down. Different here but all these deaths are from legally prescribed meds that are really loaded guns. As for Brittany, who is at peace, but the people who loved her have just started their walk in hell--best movie, darling? Drop Dead Gorgeous. Her greatest line besides, "I'll neeeeever tell," was certainly to her dad who only loved her brother Peter and had her for the kidney--"Peter's gay!! OK, Peter's gay!" Before Clueless and another bright young thing's got nominated for an Oscar, first movie too. She was too talented and too young for this, but let's all take it as the tragedy that it really is. Legal drugs that when you get them for your toothache and only use two--pour glue in the bottle and throw them away. Hanging around they end up on the street. Down the toilet and their molecular structure goes into the water supply. This is a cry out to doctors who aren't molecular chemists and depend on the sales rep about the drugs. Those reps used to have degrees in science, but now they are all ex-cheerleaders cause doctors spend more time and money on them.
